Wednesday Link List

Okay, so this was everywhere online this past week, but if you missed it here’s an explanation of the Biblical phrase Gird Your Loins. (click image to link)

Here are the news and opinion pieces from the past week that stood out. You can also read today’s links at PARSE by clicking here.

Because this is Blogger Appreciation Month, you can catch Paul Wilkinson at Thinking Out Loud, Christianity 201, or @PaulW1lk1nson on Twitter.

  1. My wife has volunteered for the past two years at a crisis pregnancy center (the term crisis is not actually in the organization name). Individuals and local churches fund this particular ministry which offers free pregnancy tests and gives away things like maternity and baby clothes, formula, toys and offers counseling. About half an hour from where we live is an upgraded facility which now offers ultrasound. In centers without ultrasound the rate of changing a woman’s mind considering abortion is about 30%. When a mother comes into a center and has an ultrasound the numbers are almost reversed, with nearly 70% of expectant mothers deciding not to abort. In the state of Texas listening to an ultrasound of the baby’s heartbeat is REQUIRED BY LAW before an abortion can be performed.

    • In most respects, seeing the ultrasound and hearing the heartbeat is the only way to make an informed decision.

  2. Paul. Good list as always. I downloaded the top 100 churches report and found it odd. I go to Red Rocks Church in Colorado. We’ve gone from 6,000 to 11,000 in less than two years. But we don’t show anywhere on this list. I wonder where they get the data from?

    • I know some churches don’t release data. Maybe that’s a good thing; it shouldn’t be all about numbers, right?
