Sheila Schuller Coleman to Lead Crystal Cathedral

sheila_colemanShe won’t be given the title “senior pastor,” but Dr. Sheila Coleman, the daughter of Robert H. Schuller has been named to the top administrative post at the Garden Grove, CA Crystal Cathedral and its Hour of Power telecast.

  1. It is a shame and horrendous mistake made the Dr. Schuller Sr to fire his son as Senior Pastor. Since this occurred, the attendance has dropped; money has dropped and confidence/belief inhis ministry has dropped. He made a unforgiveable error in doing this and would pray that he would wake up some day before his whole family suffers.

  2. So the senior Dr. Schuller could not give up control, it seems. He said he and his son “needed to part”. I thought they had already done that. The senior Dr. Schuller has resigned two years ago, is that not right? Did he expect his son to be an exact replica of himself? If so, this was the old father-and-son power struggle. With Senior Dr. Schuller’s interest in psychology, did he not realize that is what was happening? Or did his “religion”, as it so often does, result in a huge egotism that believes only his way is the right way?

    • Your last sentence is interesting. True Christianity would bring about humility, not egotism. So what you’re really asking is, “Is the ‘religion’ of Robert Schuller, Sr. true Christianity?” Maybe you already answered your own question on that one.

  3. My wife & I drove from Canada to Garden Grove, CA to visit the Crystal Cathederal and was astonished at what we saw. There was about half attendance at the service; camera scans did best to not show the overall Church seating. We saw Dr. SCHULLER Senior & was amazed that he could hardly walk. He has a full time chauffer in a luxury Cadilac, and the place is something else. They had a Spanish service in the afternoon with a rock group that really got into it.

Ever not most guest just wrote a book or recorded a CD, and Shuller wants you to send cash to Robert Schuller, not to Crystal Cathederal Ministries, so where does this 20 million+ they take in each year end up (Who’s Pocket)?

I guote the first blog: Since this occurred, the attendance has dropped; money has dropped and confidence/belief inhis ministry has dropped. He made a unforgiveable error in doing this and would pray that he would wake up some day before his whole family suffers.

Comment: This is a great comment & the senior SCHULLER should put a gun to his head before he ruins his empire. When I talked to staff at the Crystal Cathederal several stated that Schuller & his family run the whole operation & all have a job title in the luxury office tower?

Can we get an accounting of the donations?

    • The complexities of the relationship between Robert Schuller, the individual; the Crystal Cathedral; the Hour of Power; etc., are many and probably beyond the understanding of someone not versed in law or accounting. And it’s probably always been this way, it’s just coming to light now.

But I think you’re last comment is a little extreme, don’t you?

      Thanks for writing.

  4. We watched the Hour Of Power since it started but watching Dr. Sheila has really turned us off. She looks and acts like the typical yuppie, talks to the audience like they are small children and most likely lives the opulent lifestyle of most television evangelists. It would do her good to get her roots bleached like the rest of her hair. Of course if she drives an upscale SUV she will need the look to fit in. Modern day religion’s focus is upon entertainment, how many people attend and followers who will show up with a Bible in one hand and a notebook in the other. Of course, bring you purse and wallet. Think the HOP program has lost its appeal. If it were to go off the air, they still have a beautiful building and the world’s largest organ to show off. Oh well

  5. Greetings
I have been a faithful & blessed member of the Hour of Power since moving from Orange County in 1991.The current confusion and ineffective Pastor Sheila is a Grim reminder of how far plans can be challenged and eventully gone away.
I recommend FATHER BOB FORGIVE HIS SON ROBERT A, & SON DO THE SAME FOR HIS WONDERFUL FATHER IN HIS FINAL YEARS and Superb Ministry.
Sadly some Changes are just Human mistakes, waiting the Love of JESUS to Heal & grow.
God Bless ALL the Schuller FAMILY.
    FOREVER & EVER*
    Love, Destiny

  6. As I write this SAt. 920 p.m.), I am watching the HOP for the first time in several weeks because it no longer comes on locally at the time that I usually watched (6:00 a.m. Sunday). The program/service has lost so much since Sheila has become “host” of the program.

An earlier message stated she would not receive the title “senior pastor”, so who, if any one, is the senior pastor.

She has spent nearly 15 minutes in an almost mindless interview with John Tesh. The choir, seemingly smaller, is still quite good. She just does not have the appeal of either her father or her brother. If Robert H. wants the program to thrive, another change of “host” or senior minister is needed rather quickly. Also, her preaching leaves a LOT to be desired.

Final note: when I did send contributions, I was never too comfortable writing the check to “Robert Schuller”, so mine were made payable to “Hour of Power”; they were always cashed.

  7. Sheila Schuller hosting/preaching on the Hour of Power is the most humorous and pitiful event of 2009.
    Goodbye Hour of Power

  8. After many years of faithfully watching the HOP with Dr.Sculler and his son we have given it up as a falling star with the new arrangement.Where have all the good interviews gone?

    Comment by K.Smith — April 4, 2010 @ 8:25 pm

  9. Yes, it’s been baffling us here on the East Coast about WHAT HAPPENED?
between father and son? It’s the mystery, I think, that’s having a bad effect on the HOP. It seems some kind of public, national explanation of the change of hands needs to be done. I suspect the flow might return to the HOP, if everyone KNOWS what happened. Maybe an interview between the father and son. I think, Do they even talk to each other? What happened to family life? I remain faithful to the show, a Sparrows suppoter, and I enjoy Sheila as well. But, without the west coast media reports, we keep asking, What happened?

  10. Please bring back Robert Jr. to preach at least once a month.I feel he would do this despite the embrassment the directors created in removing him as pastor.
I am a CPA and in the books of the churchs I have prepared I have never seen anywhere near the reductions in donatons that the HOP reportedly have been experiencing. I think Robert Junior’s return would bring back some of the confidence the church has lost. Although Robert Jr. is not the prodical son I think that parable may have some meaning but in reverse.

    Comment by William Wyatt — May 7, 2010 @ 5:26 pm

    • Perhaps Robert Jr. will not come back, but please do not put Sheila Coleman on the air. She cannot speak to a crowd, and is not inspiring at all. Very sad.

  11. “IF” The “Hour of Power” is to survive, release Sheila and re-instate Robert A. who certainly kept many of us faithful viewers
watching and supporting the Crystal Cathedral! He was wonderful!! It would be a tragedy to see the ministry dissolve. Unless you return to the original format with Robert A. at the pulpit, you’ve certainly lost me. My condolences to Sheila.
I submit this in His love and His blessings. AMEN

  13. I have to agree. Dr Sheila
    Coleman just doesnt cut it
    as a minister or speaker.
I believe shes a good person and has the best of
    intention, but she falls
totally flat. Shes first and foremost a childrens teacher, and thats how she addresses the congregation as if they were her 3rd grade students. Today she brought props a bucket and a basket of bread, it was like now look children…. Pitiful.
They need a strong Preacher speaker to get things back on track(Not necesarily a man) But SOMEBODY) theyve had some
great speakers on there like John Maxwell who was very inspiring. But Sheila
should be back teaching the children which is SO!
obvious as to what shes trying to do on the hour of power, it doesnt work.

    Comment by Father — August 22, 2010 @ 9:19 am

    • Yes, but she’s a family member, and that’s worth 1,000 points!

  14. I agree that Robert A. should come back and Sheila should go back to teaching children. The choir should also be back and I’m not in favor of this small group of singers.I used to watch HOP all the time .But no longer.

  15. Frankly I personally do not find any problem with Sheila’s sermons. She has the penchant ability to deliver her biblical message explicitly with profound interest and sincerity. It is effective as it does affect our daily Christian life which is important. Above all it is explicit and could be I listen without jaundiced eye and totally unbiased. The family feud does not interfere or comes into my mind. As an encouragement Sheila you have done well. Keep it going and you will get there. God bless you all at HOP!

  16. What can make Dr. Schuller Sr change his mind to bring Robert A. Schuller back to us.
It is nightmare to see Hour of power without seeing Dr Robert A Schuller. It hurt us so bad.
Please, please, do we still have hope?
